How to Be a Badass

Page 1 2
If you are normally a passive person, start this step slowly and gradually become more adamant. Say something when that guy cuts in front of you at Starbucks or if someone takes your parking space. Eventually you'll feel confident standing up for yourself on a regular basis; and you should! Life is too short to get stepped on.
Stay Calm
Tough guys and don't need to talk much; their smouldering glances say everything that is needed. When in 'badass' mode, speak clearly and get directly to the point (That is, if you need to speak -- sometimes a glare says it all). If an awkward silence occurs in a conversation, don't fill it – just keep a serious expression until the other person wavers to fill the awkward silence. This is a common tactic used by reporters; by outlasting the other person you establish dominance in the conversation. Now, you have the power. If you're naturally nervous take a few deep breathes and channel your inner Clint Eastwood. A man of few words is sometimes the most nerve racking man to face.
The Look
Tough guys have an understated style. When you've got a big attitude, you don't need big clothes. The point is not to look overdone or like you're trying too hard. In reality, there is no standard badass uniform. You can be tough in a leather jacket or a sweater vest if you are the real deal. However, if you are trying to imitate 'tough guy' style or really need direction then you can't go wrong if you just stick to the basics: jeans, plain shirt and leather jacket. Make sure the jeans fit and if you go for a T-shirt, make sure it has got that worn in look. As for the leather jacket, it should be sleek, close fitting; zip up the front and classic black is a bonus. Try to avoid ones with a lot of establishments like studs or fringes; a few designs may be fine. Also, tough guys can get away with a slightly dishevelled look; a few wrinkles here or there never killed anyone. Don't accessorize too much – the point is to look like you don't care. No neck gear, no bracelets or “cuffs” and hats are for winter.
The Payoff
Does possessing a tough guy image even pay off when there are so many nice guys out there that seem perfectly happy? Hell yes! True rebels, tough guys and alpha males are an elusive breed of men; they come with an air of mystery and sex appeal. The tough guy has the answers, the power, the respect and, of course, the women. Deep down every man wants to run the show. It's an appeal that is hard to resist.
Tough guys get a bad rap, which is part of the appeal, but there is a lot to learn from their attitude. Even if you can't commit to the lifestyle, you can still incorporate some tough guy traits. Just walking with more self-confidence, going for what you want and becoming a bit more aggressive when your honour is threatened will increase your 'danger level' in the eyes of others and probably make your life easier. And remember, you don't have to be a badass all of the time. Even if you play the role for a night, which is sometimes all a regular nice guy can handle, you too might be a little feared, a little mysterious and land a hot date.
