La Carnaval

For Christians the season of Lent means giving up those things we love for forty days, but, it also means splurging on them in complete and utter excess just before you have to do it. While New Orleans is renowned for Mardi Gras, there is somewhere even wilder to commit your sins. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil is home to the largest, most colorful and most excessive pre-Lent celebration in the world, La Carnaval. And you thought everyone was headed to Louisiana. For just fifty cents, get admission to take part in the debauchery that gets you into the hottest Latin party with the most vibrant and colorful parade you can imagine, music, food, drinks and, oh yeah, half naked girls in a country where half naked means even less clothing than you may think.  

Hogmanay

Each year people around the world look for the best way to spend December 31st. Partygoers, look no further than Edinburgh, Scotland for the biggest, baddest, longest New Year’s Eve party anywhere. Hogmanay, as it is called, attracts 100,000 people and begins on December 29th with a torch led procession taking revelers to a ship burning in true Viking fashion. The following day, Edinburgh’s free New Year's Ceilidh, meaning Celtic party, spans several downtown streets where folklore can be heard, line dancing, and Scottish break dancing is performed, and there is never a shortage of beer or bagpipes. Had enough already? So have we –so where’s the insanity right? December 31st is the main attraction. The all day and all night event showcases some of the worlds top musical performers, stage and costume shows, triathlons, racing, and more dancing if you are into that. If that doesn’t quite do it for you then we should mention the seemingly endless supply of booze and food, not to mention all the girls who flock here every New Year’s Eve. At midnight, watch one of the most extravagant firework displays as you enter the New Year.

No matter the season or country, reason or cause, people around the world will always find reasons to party but some places just do it better than others. So get out there and join in the celebration and have no regrets.
