50-Inch LCD TV

To watch the big game, to watch a movie or just to furnish the pad, every man needs a big screen TV and every bachelor pad should have one. The 50 inch television is the measurable start of the ‘big screen’ class and the bare minimum for a superior home theater system. If you can go bigger, go for it -- but nothing smaller. Some guys call their 42 inch a home theater system but no, sorry, it's not.

Sound System

Needless to say, the sound system should be state-of-the-art. A proper sound system will not only complement your home theater system but will also provide its own source of entertainment for both yourself and guests. A good sound system should be maximized for sound and yet occupy a minimal amount of space. Providing a room with surround sound is always a good choice.

Art

This is highly variable and should be chosen to fit both the interior of the home and the personality of the owner. Suitable art choices will be both classy and tasteful while revealing some aspect of the owner. Vintage magazine work is often cool and classy so you may want to try and get some large print framed replicas of some early cover work from your favorite magazines. If you fail to do that you could always purchase Indie Art, as there are plenty of stylish paint works that can be purchased from up-and-coming local artists. Who knows, maybe you will end up with an original piece from the next Picasso.

Pool Table

Having your own table is a great way to improve your game and provides a great excuse to invite guests over so you can also show off your great place. Classic wood frame on green felt is simple and universally tasteful. If you are going to pick out a table with more offbeat trends try to avoid metallic frames, absurdly vibrant or fluorescent felt colors and unusual frame designs. Just because you can find these ‘funky’ tables doesn’t mean you should buy one.

Recliner

Man’s best friend in all its stereotypical glory. Broken in for maximum relaxation by years of usage to yield superb comfort. No need for expense here, the only ‘must’ is comfort when it comes to recliners. Worn-out or worn-in is perfectly fine as long as this is the only thing in your home that is worn. However, if you are looking for a new higher end recliner then we suggest the Thor chair, by Lafer, which has foam padding inserted throughout the chair for maximum comfort. You may just wonder -Who needs a bed?

Good Lighting

You are not living in a dungeon and your place should not be as dark as one. Get some proper lighting to show off all the accents that make your pad so great. Art and décor are great but essentially useless if they cannot be seen. Good lighting can make your space feel open and larger than it may actually be; much like mirrors and large pane windows. Proper lighting can even add a stylish elegance of it own, such as rope lighting or drop-ceiling lights.
