What really matters is, in terms of theatrical percept, who distributes the movie and how much money they spend. Making a great movie is going to help in the long term, like we’re going to have great DVD sales and you can make a classic, but in terms of theatrical success it depends on who distributes the movie and how much money they spend. Look at the movies “Office Space” or “The Big Lebowski,” they didn’t do well in the Box Office but they are considered classics now.

SM: How hard was it to cast yourself – Tucker Max?

TM: Wasn’t too hard. Maybe it is because I am kinda used to divorcing myself from that process but it wasn’t too hard to look at the character objectively and find the person who best embodied that. Matt was head and shoulders above the rest. He was really good. It wasn’t as hard as you think it would be.

SM: Why didn’t you play yourself?

TM: Hahaha, because I’m not a good actor, dude. Believe me, I wish I could. If I could have done it I would have. Acting is actually hard, haha. No one had less respect for actors than me before this entire process and now I have totally changed my opinion. I have immense respect for them. You need a specific skill set – and it is not easy and it is not something you can just wake up and do. It takes practice, work and dedication. I just, straight up, was not good enough. If I could’ve pulled it off I would have but believe me the movie would’ve sucked if I had played myself.

SM: In the film you put your friends through a lot. Are you still friends with them today?

TM: Of course. I am friends with all of them. Some of the characters are composites. Dean is essentially based of Nils.

SM: What's next for you?

TM: I got a new book, ‘Assholes Finish First,’ it comes out next year. After that? I dunno. We will see.

SM: We’re a men’s general interest magazine, what is something you would like
men around the world to know?  Any advice for them to live by?

TM: Oh man! That’s another thing I could write a whole book about. The biggest thing, man, the biggest thing is don’t be afraid. Afraid people are afraid of life. They are afraid to take risks and get out there and do things they love and I think the key to my success is that I wasn’t afraid. I wasn’t afraid to try new stuff. I wasn’t afraid to take a risk. I wasn’t afraid to be myself - you know?

Any last words?

TM: I want a beer dude and I am in Canada and I can’t find one.

Yeah
Only if she made me
No, I'm concerned about my health
Hell no. The 'pill' is her problem
